LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — State Police say they rescued a dog after multiple people contacted them out of concern for its welfare.
On Tuesday, officers learned of a Facebook post that seemed to show a dog “in distress” while riding in an unsecured kennel placed on an open trailer. Someone even called 9-1-1 after seeing this setup on I-80/94.
Police tracked the SUV shown in the post and soon found the dog in Gary, Indiana. They believe the dog had been abandoned near a home previously used by the vehicle’s owner.
They later found its owner, who could be charged with cruelty to an animal. The owner will be publicly identified if the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office approves those charges.
The dog is currently receiving care in a foster home. See footage of the rescue on Facebook.
