RICHMOND, Ind.– One of the Hoosiers who will be a guest at Tuesday’s address to a joint session of Congress speech by Pres. Donald Trump is Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter. Congressman Jefferson Shreve, who represents east central Indiana, says Retter will be his guest.
Shreve made the announcement Monday, saying Retter has successfully partnered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to get drug dealers, who are also undocumented, off the streets in Indiana.
“Sheriff Retter has been a leader in supporting our immigration laws and ensuring the safety of Wayne County and East Central Indiana,” said Shreve, in a prepared statement.
“Through his cooperation with ICE, he’s moved drug traffickers off our streets, Sheriff Retter is committed to keeping our communities safe. I’m grateful for his service and dedication to public safety.”
Retter is a former president of the Indiana Sheriff’s Assoc. and serves on the Board of Directors for the National Sheriff’s Assoc.
Retter said he is honored to attend.
“This opportunity allows me to witness this important event firsthand, and to share some of the issues affecting law enforcement today. I appreciate Congressman Shreve’s commitment to supporting the men and women who serve and protect our communities,” he said.
