Listen Live

Over the weekend a local Indy bar has gone viral after kicking out a customer wearing a M.A.G.A hat.

Elise Hensley and Mr. Holistic joined Hammer and Nigel Monday to talk about their experience at the Chatterbox Jazz Club this weekend.

Hensley and a small group of friends stopped by the Chatterbox on Mass Ave Friday night to listen to some live music. Hensley, along with one of her friends, Mr. Holistic were wearing “Make America Great Again” hats. According to Hensley, the bartender told the group they needed to leave as they weren’t welcomed there. Elise then took her phone out to record this interaction with the staff.

Hensley : “I have a question.”

Bartender: “No, no. We’re not answering questions. Get out of my bar.”

Hensley : “Why? Why? Why?”

Bartender: “Because you’re a Trump supporter.”

Hensley : “I know, but don’t you guys want our money?”

Bartender: “No, actually we don’t. Get out of my bar right now.”

Another bartender: “You’re not welcome.”

Bartender: “I’m not f****** around. Get out of my bar.” (grabs a baseball bat)

Hensley : “Are you serious?”

Bartender: “I’m dead serious. Out.”

Hensley : “Because I’m wearing a Trump hat?”

Bartender: “Yes.”

Hensley : “That’s wild.”

Bartender: “I don’t care. Get out.”

Another bartender: “We can call the police, or you can just leave.”

Hensley : “You know this is, like, discrimination, right?”

Bartender: “Boo hoo. Boo f****** hoo. Get out of my bar.”

Despite rumors online, Elise clarified that the group was not there earlier in the day. She states the whole interaction lasted about 10 minutes. She decided to record on her way out as the bartender threatened her with a baseball bat.

Mr. Holistic noted that he was also wearing a MAGA hat, but Elise was the one targeted. They agree that while the business had the right to deny service, the threatening, cursing, and overall escalation of the staff’s response crossed a line.

The Chatterbox posted their response to the – now viral- incident on their social media pages claiming they were the real victims.

Hammer and Nigel asked Elise about the bar’s response. She told the show that the group did not harass the employees.

“That did not happen….I will say they were in the wrong and now they are trying to cover their butts because of this and now lies are getting spread all over the city about what actually happened.”

Since the weekend, Elise says her home address was leaked, and her family has received death threats.

Despite everything that happened, she says Chatterbox is an iconic Indy establishment that she had been to multiple times before the incident.
