INDIANAPOLIS–Former Indiana governor and vice president Mike Pence will receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021, which the Kennedy family says was a defense of the peaceful transfer of power.

Those actions caused a rift between Pres. Donald Trump and Pence. The two have exchanged few words since.

Trump pressured Pence to reject the election results from some states.

Pence remained at the Capitol when rioters were shouting “hang Mike Pence”, and continued the process of certification of the presidential election after the disruption.

The Kennedy family Thursday, in a prepared statement, praised Pence for “putting his life on the line” to defend the Constitutional process.
