Democrats are livid. Thousands protested over the weekend decrying the Trump administration policies. One of them is the elimination of the Department of Education. But what are Dems angry over, the education of children, or are they outraged that support for edu-crats may be cut down. Dr Ben Carson joins Tony Katz Today to talk about what works to educate children and how we as a nation should move forward.

Tony Katz:

Education on a personal basis, family basis, on a governmental basis. How do we make this whole thing better? Where does it need to start? former secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson Joins us right now. You can learn more about the Carson Scholars Fund at carsonscholars.org. You’re coming to my beloved Indianapolis to talk about the Carson Scholars Fund, to talk about the reading project, the Ben Carson Reading project. Of course, I want to get your thoughts on what’s going on in, in DC… We’ve been on this education concept and of course education has been a big conversation, the idea of ending the department of of Education. Are you down with that plan?

Dr Ben Carson:

Well, you know I tend to like to do things based on data upon facts and the Department of Education was first established in 1979, 1980 doesn’t matter who started it, it was started. Since that time our Educational attainment has gone down rather than up, despite spending several trillion dollars. So, it tells you that something is amiss. What we do discover is that students who benefit from school choice tend to do better in virtually all academic areas. So, what we should be looking at is how do we take advantage of the things that we know? Work, not the things that don’t work. So, I don’t see the Department of Education as having contributed in any significant way to the advancement of education in our country.
