Man Arrested after Trying to Poison Neighbor’s Dog

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A man was arrested after he was accused of attempting to poison his neighbor’s dog.
Officers say they were called to a home on Blackford Avenue in May of 2023 to look into this.
The neighbor, who was a woman, told police she saw Matthew Shaw reaching over her fence and dropping something behind her dog’s kennel. That made her think Shaw was giving the dog a treat.
Then, the woman told officers that she saw a peanut butter sandwich with poison green pellets inside there, which are used to kill rodents.
Police say the woman had the sandwich and the dog’s blood tested, and the results say the blood and sandwich both tested positive for the same mixture.
Shaw was taken to Vanderburgh County Jail early Tuesday.
