INDOT Kicks Off $3.3 Billion Construction Season

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has officially launched its 2025 construction season. This year’s plan includes $3.3 billion in infrastructure upgrades across the state.
Over 1,200 projects are set to begin. More than 7,600 lane miles of pavement will be resurfaced or replaced. Many of these projects are focused on improving traffic flow and safety.
This announcement comes during National Work Zone Awareness Week. Last year in Indiana, over 7,000 crashes happened in work zones. These caused more than 1,500 injuries and 30 deaths.
A major focus this year is the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project in Indianapolis. It will add lanes, replace pavement, and improve sidewalks and bridges. Two lanes in each direction will remain open during most of the work.
INDOT is also starting a pilot program called Safe Zones. Beginning May 5, drivers going 11 mph or more over the speed limit in select construction areas will receive violation notices by mail.
