ROME — A funeral Mass for Pope Francis was held Saturday at St. Peter’s Square in Rome, with hundreds of thousands of mourners, church leaders, and world figures attending.

Dozens of global leaders arrived for the Solemn Requiem Mass. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were among the last to be seated after paying private respects. Prince William attended on behalf of King Charles III, representing the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also attended.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Rome for the funeral, receiving some applause from the crowd as he arrived.

The Mass began shortly after 10 a.m. local time. Pope Francis’s sealed casket was carried onto the steps of the basilica as psalms were recited. After the service, the casket will be interred at the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major.
