SPEEDWAY, Ind.–The Greatest Spectacle in Racing is also the largest event in Indiana and one of the largest in America. This year it could be close to its largest size ever.

Ticket sales for the Indy 500 are four percent above where they were at this time last year.

“We look poised to have our second-ever sellout of the grandstands, following the first time we did it in 2016 for the 100th running,” said Indianapolis Motor Speedway senior director of Marketing, Michael Kaltenmark, talking to WISH TV.

Kaltenmark said sales are trending about a week ahead of where they were last year and are normally.

“We feel like a sell-out of the grandstands is imminent. But, we’ll wait and see,” he said, adding that ticket sales for the Grand Prix are up 12 percent.

He also said they are asking Hoosiers to dress in racing gear every Friday.

“We like to call those 500 Fashion Fridays. So, break out your checkered flag gear, your Indy 500 merchandise and wear that to work with pride because where else but central Indiana do we celebrate May like this?”
