No Pope Elected on the First Vote

VATICAN CITY– The election of a new Pope will have to wait for another day. Thick black smoke rose from a chimney installed in the Sistine Chapel Wednesday, signifying the first vote to elect the new Pope was unsuccessful.
Voting will resume on Thursday.
An estimated crowd of 45,000 people reacted to see the black smoke billow from the chimney.
A two-thirds majority is needed to elect a new pope. Pope Francis was in charge of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from March 13, of 2013 until he died this year.
