Marion County Ex-Deputy Charged with Stealing from a Walmart

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says an ex-deputy was caught on camera multiple times shoplifting from a Walmart on the east side of Indianapolis.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Timothy Beavo had stolen from the Walmart in the 10000 block of East Washington Street at least eight times, dating back to early February.
Beavo had been with the sheriff’s office since 2002. He was fired on April 2 after being caught stealing a bottle of fish oil supplements from the Walmart on March 30.
After reviewing security camera footage, it was determined by a loss-prevention adviser that Beavo stole more than $70 worth of items over the eight separate thefts including food, light bulbs and a bottle of Omega 3 fish oil supplements. Sometimes, Beavo was in uniform and using his sheriff’s van when he was at the Walmart.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said this is not just about the claims that the ex-deputy stole things from the Walmart.
“What was probably most disappointing to the people involved in this process and this investigation is just that there was the allegation that the sheriff vehicle was used and sheriff uniform was used and so those are the types of things that I think caused the concern, but also led to the additional charge of official misconduct,” Mears told WISH-TV.
Investigators spoke with Beavo on April 2. According to the affidavit, Beavo denied knowingly taking items from the store at first. He then admitted to the thefts later in the interview.
Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal released the following statement about the case:
“A community’s loss of trust in a law enforcement officer must be dealt administratively, and if necessary, criminally. The MCSO voiced our strong support in charging Beavo with Official Misconduct in addition to Theft as he was in uniform three of the (eight) times he allegedly shoplifted.”
Beavo is charged with three counts of official misconduct and six counts of theft. A status of counsel hearing is set for June 18.
Court records also show Beavo has been banned from all Walmart stores in Marion County.
