INDIANAPOLIS — As the work week starts off, you may expect chances of rain across Indianapolis.

Jason Puma is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. He says rain and scattered storms are expected to happen several days throughout the work week.

“The state will be seeing an upper level pressure system linger in the area,” Puma says. “That’s just going to bring Indiana showers and some scattered thunderstorms from time to time each day this week.”

Puma explains what your highest chances of rain are.

“It will be starting off on Monday afternoon into the night, and then again on Tuesday afternoon into the night,” Puma says.

He says only light rain is expected, nothing heavy or flood-worthy.

“Amounts through the week will probably add up between a half of an inch to an inch,” Puma says. “We’re not looking for a big, soaking amount of rainfall or even flooding possibilities at this point. However, we will have steady, light rain amounts that are possible to happen each day as we go through the week.”

Puma also says it will be a little bit warmer and humid.

“We’re going to see high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday in the upper 70’s,” Puma says. “Then, by the time we get to Wednesday and Thursday, we’re going to be warming up into the middle to upper 80’s.”

Puma says severe storms are not expected throughout the week, but any time there is a thunderstorm, you are always urged to stay inside.

“Anytime there is a thunderstorm, we always advice people to get themselves indoors because even if you see a thunderstorm, lightning is a threat from them,” Puma says.
