ROCHESTER, Ind. — A man from Elkhart County was shot in the head and neck Saturday after he was likely mistaken for a turkey by another hunter, said the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources.

According to a press release from the DNR, Brian Lehmen, 41, of Nappanee, in Elkhart County, was walking to a property to hunt near Rochester, along with a 12-year-old, when a hunter on a property next door, fired a shot with a 12-gauge shotgun, which hit the man in the head and neck.

The juvenile was not hurt.

The man was flown to a hospital in South Bend, where he was treated and released.

The incident is under investigation by Indiana Conservation officers.
